The Lizard Queen: Michele E. Fusco

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally hatched in New York, I migrated to New Mexico, where I grew up. I began painting and drawing when I was about 13, and quickly discovered a way to escape the pressure of my overbearing, emotionally abusive father. Later on, art became a serious mode of emotional exploration and expression for me. I searched for years for a solid, serious guide and inspiration, that is to say, someone who put as much of themselves into their work as I put into mine; after many failures and disappointments, I found Jim Morrison, who many, incuding myself, have referred to as my "true calling". In Jim's music and poetry, there is no pretense; there is truly "no safety, or surprise". Jim was real, in everything that he did, and was not a 'performer' or a businessman, who was only putting on an act in order to line his pockets. Jim was truly posessed by a vision and madness of real artistic expression, for which he paid a high price, but also for which he has gone down in history as, in my opinion, the greatest poet, singer/songwriter and philosopher the world has ever known. It is with these sentiments that I have found once again true, clean inspiration, and thereby I have created, and will continue to create, the illustrations on my Jim Morrison website. I've been lucky enough to sell them sometimes, and there is a great deal of interest in my work, for which I feel very blessed, as the greatest thing that can happen to an artist besides finding lifelong, deep inspiration, is to also find those who appreciate and understand it. Currently, I spend my time creating illustrations, exploring and interpreting Morrison's work and spirit, and maintaining my websites, with renewed energy now that I am certain in my inspiration, my guide and my cause... "And the truth shall set you free...!"
